About The New Charis Mission

The work of The New Charis Mission (hereafter known as “TNCM”) is informed by its premise of believing in hope and advocating change through its expanding flagship initiatives. These initiatives include work with the elderly, youth, ex-offenders, prisoners and the underprivileged overseas. We are a non-profit charitable organization officially registered in August 2006 with the Registry of Societies (ROS) and Commissioner of Charities in February 2007. TNCM is a full member of National Council of Social Service (NCSS) since January 2008 and is also an approved Institution of a Public Character (IPC).

Here at The New Charis Mission, we reach out to various community to educate those around about our work and encourage them to join us in our mission: To enable the disenfranchised through targeted programmes, tools and refuge. We focus our efforts on 3 main factions: Youths, Ex-offenders and Elderly.

We believe that every child has the potential to be great, what they require is the right push to the right direction. The New Charis Mission (TNCM) aims to provide that push and help youths need to find what sparks them in life and show them how they can live their lives to their fullest.

We develop and conduct various programmes that provide support and instill positive traits into youths:

  • School Assembly Talks
  • The time-Out Programme
  • Structured mentoring system
  • Project camps (eg:  fundraising events and hands-on experience)

We also run small structured group sessions with students who have been identified by their schools as at-risk and allocate mentors to these students, to help better build rapport and relationships with them.

Every individual deserve a second chance and a new lease of life. Here  at The New Charis Mission (TNCM), we strive to create and provide the environment ex-offenders need to step back into society.

We standby the ex- offenders as early as upon their arrest, we step in to help prepare them emotionally and mentally before beginning their prison sentence. We help them explore ways whereby their term in prison may be spent productively and meaningfully, and help them to reintegrate into society upon their release.

We also provide counselling sessions in selected prison institutions and conduct a variety of programmes that are designed to help ex-convicts gain a foothold when they return back to society:

  • Structured Mentoring Programme
  • D.A.R.E (Dream, Action, Resilience, Excellent) Programme
  • Educating and counselling  sessions
  • Project camps (eg:  fundraising events and hands-on experience)

It is always important to give back to ones who helped build our society and were once our pillar of support. At The New Charis Mission, our brothers and volunteers conduct weekly visits to the homes of elderly residents. They deliver daily necessities, and even go to the extent of performing house repairs and refurbishment. Other acts of kindness include free hair cuts and sing-along sessions.

We work with different communities as well on home renovations and refurbishments of one house per month. The team consisting of ex-offenders and youths would help clean, paint, repair and refurbish the house.

These acts are small but go a long way in helping to boost the well-being of these elderly and improve their emotional state-of-mind.
